CAB 12. Your voice is your personality.
You cannot change it but you can make it better.

Hello friends
Last edition of Career Autobahn we talked about how to deliver your presentation. The importance of doing your rehearsals, controlling your nervous energy and maintaining a positive body language.
Another important aspect of your presentation is your voice control.
Have you ever recorded yourself doing a presentation? If you haven’t, I strongly recommend that you do that soon.
Then only you can know what does your voice really sound like.
Before a presentation, it is important that you get your nervous energy under control. When people are nervous, they normally talk very fast or in extreme cases you can also hear the quiver in the voice.
The more relax you are, the more natural your voice will be.
During the presentation, to avoid sounding monotonous and sending people to sleep, vary the volume, the speed, the tone of your voice.
Sometimes you can be loud, sometimes you can be soft.
Sometimes you speak fast, sometimes you slow it down.
Make you sure that your put some emphasis on the key words that you want to highlight. Different emphasis will carry different meaning to a sentence.
For example,
MY advice to you is be your own boss (emphasis on MY)
My advice to YOU is be your own boss (emphasis on YOU)
Don't forget to use pauses as well. Pause is a very powerful tool to underline key messages. When you pause, the audience will pay attention more. Processing what you have just said.
Pause is also a great way to eliminate filler words. Filler words such as ‘oohm’, ‘aahh’, ‘you know’, ‘so’ and many others can be very distracting when there are too many of them.
Do you know what your filler words are? If you don’t, again record yourself or you can ask your friends to observe you when you do a presentation
Once you know what your filler words are, then stop it before those words escape from your mouth.
To summarise, to control your voice more better:
Vary your speed, volume, tone
Emphasis key words
Use pauses
Remove filler words
