Can money buy happinezz?
The classic question kan?
Everyone says no.
But sebenarnya, of course having money helps.
When you don't have to worry about paying rent, bayar bil, putting food on the table, that removes a LOT of stress.
And less stress means more space for happinezz.
So up to a certain point, yes. Money does help.
But here's what the research actually says.
A famous study found that happinezz increases with income but only up to a certain point.
After that?
More money doesn't really make you more happy
Because what money CANNOT buy is what actually keeps us happy long term.
The Harvard study I mentioned before, 70+ years of research, found that the biggest predictor of happinezz was not wealth.
It was the quality of your close relationships.
Your people. Your person. Your tribe.
And remember our happy hormones?
Dopamine. Oxytocin. Serotonin. Endorphin.
Money can buy you experiences that boost dopamine? Yes.
But oxytocin? That love and connection hormone?
You cannot buy that at Pavilion or online shopping.
You get it from real conversations. From hugs. From makan together with people you love.
I have met people with a lot of money who are very lonely.
And I have met people with very little who laugh every single day.
Bukan cakap kaya tak bagus.
But maybe we have been chasing the wrong thing.
The goal is not to be rich.
The goal is to be rich AND connected AND content.
Baru la complete.
So yes, go and make your money.
But don't forget to also invest in your relationships.
That will give you the best return in the long run
