In Feb 2011, I flew to Germany for a job interview.
Mainly just to see Germany.
Diaorg bayar the flight anyway.

At that time, I’ve been applying for jobs but the job search has not been easy.

My expectation to get this job in Germany was low but I still came for the interview.

When I arrived at the office I was impressed by the office building. Memang cantik betul

Modern sleek architecture exactly how I thought a top global pharmaceutical company would look like.

When I stepped into the office building, my impostor syndrome kicked in 100%

I told myself that I didn’t belong there and also asked myself - Who am I to get this job here?

But I did my best anyway. That’s all I could do.

I answered all the Interview question as best as I could

But I didn’t really know what my chances were until this happened

The head of department said that he was looking for diversity.

In my head I was thinking - is he talking about me?

A non-German speaking Asian Malaysian? 😆

He repeated that fact a few times and I thought hey maybe I do have a chance here

So when I received the job offer a few weeks later, I really couldn’t believe it

I went to the interview with zero expectation and I still got the job

So moral of the story is - whatever your expectation is, do your best and you might be surprised by the results

Even when you think tak de chance, you never know what can happen
