I almost had a nervous breakdown

But luckily I found a great counselor

I still remember exactly what happened when I realised I’m about to have a breakdown 

That I needed some professional help

I was driving on the Duke highway when a car cut me up

I then chased after the car for a good few minutes before I managed to take back the control of my emotion

“What was I thinking?”

Memang crazy. I was so scared when I realised that for a few minutes I lost control of my own emotion

I knew I needed to see a counsellor

Yes, even a medical doctor need some help. I am not immune from mental health issues 

I was lucky that I managed to find a great counsellor and I’ve been seeing her for a few years now since then. Sometimes more frequent depending on what’s going on in my life.

What I love about my sessions is the learnings that I get from her

I learnt how to identify the emotions that I am feeling. By doing this I’m more aware of what’s going on and able to stop my negative thoughts from spiraling. Saving me from the emotional hijack 

I learnt not to assume the outcome of certain actions or other people’s feelings. Sometimes our own assumptions makes everything even more negative than it actually is and we ourselves make it doom & gloom 

I also learnt about reframing. About looking at a situation or a problem with a different lens. When you do this, suddenly the problem is not so big after all and you can understand their perspective better 

I am grateful that I found someone that I trust and can connect with quite quickly 

Without her help I’m not sure where I would be now. Tak tau la apa jade.

Don’t be ashamed to get some help when your mental health is affected 

Don’t wait until you get to the point of a road rage
