Is joy and happinezz the same thing?
I only found this out recently.
And it was a bit of a surprise to me.
Most people use these two words interchangeably.
Happy. Joyful. Same same la kan?
Actually not the same.
Happinezz is a long term thing.
It is your overall satisfaction with life.
Are your relationships good? Is your health okay? Do you feel like life has meaning?
Remember the Harvard study that tracked 724 men for 70 years?
The biggest factor for happinezz was the quality of close relationships.
Not the material things
Relationships.
That is happinezz. The big picture.
Joy is different. Tak sama
Joy is a moment.
Spontaneous. Unexpected. Short.
That first sip of kopi in the morning.
Your mum calling you for no reason. (could also be stressful haha)
Finishing a task and feeling that dopamine hit.
Joy doesn't need everything to be perfect.
Joy can exist even on a hard day.
So what does this mean for us?
Happinezz may take time to build.
But joy?
Joy is available today, is available right now
At the meja makan tonight.
In a good conversation.
In dark chocolate.
In a 15-minute walk outside.
Don't wait until life is perfect before you allow yourself to feel joy.
Pick one small thing today.
And let yourself feel it.
